Arkansas Tech University has recently moved to Microsoft Exchange as the primary email server for students, faculty, and staff. Since the Exchange Server is a Microsoft product, the recommended email client for desktop access is Outlook and the recommended email client for web browser access is Outlook Web Access. There are third party email clients and third party applications that will allow access to Exchange. Some of these have limitations and do not support all the features of Exchange. Third party applications, plug-ins or add-ons that link the email client to Exchange are not supported because we cannot guarantee the integrity of the application and are sometimes bundled with unwanted or dangerous software. Therefore, we do not encourage anyone to use third party applications, plug-ins or add-ons.

To configure Outlook to connect to Exchange:

  • Start Outlook.
  • Enter your atu email address and password. It should automatically detect the proper settings and configure your account.

If you choose to use use a third party application for your email, here is the information that you will need to configure that application to connect via IMAP.

 IMAP Server Name: imap-mail.outlook.com
 Port Number: 993
 Encryption Method: SSL

 SMTP Server Name: smtp-mail.outlook.com
 Port Number: 587
Encryption Method: STARTTLS
