By default, Respondus Monitor will use a computer’s microphone to record ambient sound during the exam. Anything a student speaks during the exam will be recorded with the video. However, only one application can access the microphone at a time. So if an instructor wants a student to use a microphone with a second application during the exam (such as a foreign language application where students provide oral answers), an instructor must select the appropriate setting prior to the exam.
Within the settings area for Respondus Monitor, please do the following:
- Select “Advanced Settings”.
- Select the option “Allow another application to use a microphone during this exam.” When selected, Respondus Monitor will not use the microphone to record the ambient sound, and the microphone will be available to another application during the exam. Finally, click Save and Close.
