Essentially, we are downloading each PowerPoint and putting it on cloud storage such as OneDrive or Google Slides. Then we will use an embed link to post this in Blackboard as an item. For my example below, I list how to use OneDrive since it's included in our Office365 access.

Part 1 - Uploading to OneDrive

  1. Download the PowerPoint to your PC
  2. Navigate to https://onedrive.com
  3. Click 'Sign In' in the top-right and enter your ATU email address.
  4. If given the option click "Work or school account". This should take you to our ATU sign in page, or log you in if you have an active session open.
  5. Here open the "Shared with Everyone" folder. Once in this folder click "Upload" at the top of the page and select "Files".
  6. The PowerPoint will show up once it is fully uploaded. Click on it to open the file.
  7. After the file opens, click "File" and then "Share". Then click the button that says "Embed".
  8. On this page, you can select what size you would like the PowerPoint will be in Blackboard. I suggest using at least 722x565 to ensure the text is readable.
  9. After selecting the size, click the box under "Embed Code". Copy this to your clipboard (Right click then select 'Copy' or Hold down "Ctrl" and press "C" on your keyboard.)

Part 2 - Embedding in Blackboard

  1. Open your Blackboard course and navigate to the folder that the PowerPoint should be deployed.
  2. At the top of the page select "Build Content" and then "Item".
  3. Set the title and availability options as you would normally. In the text box click "HTML". See the screenshot below:

  4. In the HTML window that has opened paste the embed code you copied in step 9. You can do this by right clicking the blank area and selecting 'Paste' or holding down 'Ctrl' and pressing 'V' on the keyboard. Then click 'Update'
  1. A yellow square will now be displayed in the text box. This is to show the area the PowerPoint will take up. Click 'Submit' at the bottom-right of the page.

You should now have the PowerPoint embedded in Blackboard. After doing this once to get the hang of it, you can cut a few steps out by uploading more than one file at a time into OneDrive.
