When opening a Powerpoint file from Blackboard in Microsoft Edge you may receive an error message that reads Server Error followed by 404 - File or directory not found. The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.


Blackboard is aware of the issue and is working on a solution. In the meantime there are Three methods to work around this issue.


  1. Alternate Browser: Other browsers such as Chrome or Firefox do not appear to be affected by this bug. You can download Mozilla Firefox at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and Google Chrome at https://www.google.com/chrome/
  2. Disable Office Viewer in Microsoft Edge: In Microsoft Edge click the three-dot menu in the top-right and then click Settings. Click Downloads. Toggle the Open files in the browser option to "off."
  3. Download File: In Microsoft Edge, right-click the affected file and click Save Link As. This will allow you to save the file locally to your computer and open it locally.
