Introduction:

When Windows 10 is installed, the default web browser is Microsoft Edge (click here for information on the Edge browser).  Windows gives you the ability to choose a different browser as your default.  If you want to use a different browser as your default in Windows, you can follow these steps to change it.

Note:  The browser you want to use as your default needs to be installed and available in your Windows.

Step-By-Step:

Step 1: Click the Windows Start  button.

Response:  The Windows Start Menu appears.

Step 2:  Select Settings from the Windows Start Menu as shown in this figure.

Response:  The Windows Settings applet opens, displaying the Settings categories.

Step 3:  In the Windows Settings applet, click on the System icon as shown in this picture.

Response:  The System menu appears.

Step 4:  In the left navigation pane of the System menu, select Default apps.  Then, in the right-hand pane, scroll down to the Web browser category.  Microsoft Edge should be displayed as the current default browser.

Step 5:  Click on Microsoft Edge to change it as shown here.

Response:  The Choose an app flyout menu is displayed.  Any browsers you have installed and are available to use will be displayed in this menu.

Step 6:  Select the browser you want as your default browser as shown in this picture.  Firefox is being selected in this example.

Response:  Your selected browser (Firefox in this example) is now displayed as the default web browser as shown below.  Content that launches in your web browser, such as a link clicked in an eMail, will launch in your selected browser instead of Microsoft Edge going forward.

Finally:  Close the System settings menu.
