This article explains two versions of Java. Please verify what Java version you have and use that instruction.

Java Version 1.

  • Is this your Java screen? If yes, please continue to follow the procedure below. If not, please go to Java Version 2.

  • Click on your Start menu then click on Control Panel.
  • Towards the upper right hand corner of the control panel there is a setting that says "View by".  If you are set to categories then change to either large or small icons.
  • With the icons now viewable, click on the Java icon. This brings up the Java control Panel.
  • Click on the Security tab.
  • Change the settings as illustrated in the image right below.

  ● If you had a web browser open, close out of the browser completely then reopen the browser and the applet will load. These settings are a user-based setting.  So, if you are doing this on a campus computer, you will most likely have to
change this setting on any computer you log in to.  Even if you log in to the same computer on another day, you will still probably have to change this setting. If this is on your personal desktop/laptop, you can most likely change this one time
and your computer will keep the setting.
