Single Number Reach is a feature that allows incoming calls to your desk phone extension to also ring on a remote phone, such as a cell phone.  Once configured, the incoming call will ring on your desk phone, and then after a configurable delay, will begin ringing on the remote phone as well.  You can pick up the call on either device and, if you do not pick up the call, they will be sent to your ATU voicemail.  This feature is different than standard Call Forwarding in the following ways:

  • The call still continues to ring on your desk phone allowing you to pick it up on either device.  Standard call forwarding immediately sends the call to the number you're forwarding to and only rings on that device.

  • If unanswered, the call goes to your ATU voicemail.  With standard call forwarding, the call would go to the voicemail associated with the number you forwarded to.  Please note: This does not apply to "declined" calls... if you decline a call on your mobile device, it may send the call to your cell's voicemail.

  • Single Number Reach can be scheduled to work all of the time or only between certain hours on certain days.  Standard call forwarding cannot be scheduled and is always on until it is manually deactivated.

Single Number Reach is a very handy feature if you're away from your office phone a lot and still need to be able to take incoming calls.

How to configure Single Number Reach depends on whether or not you also use Cisco Jabber or Webex Teams to make and receive calls on the remote phone you plan on using with Single Number Reach (like a cell phone).

Setting up Single Number Reach:
  1. Open a web browser and navigate to the Cisco Unified Communications Self Care Portal at https://cm-pub.atu.edu/ucmuser/ . If you are not on-campus, you'll need to connect using the GlobalProtect VPN. Instructions on how to do so can be found here:
Windows: How do I connect to the ATU GlobalProtect VPN on Windows?
Mac: How do I connect to the ATU GlobalProtect VPN on Mac OS?

  2. Log in with your ATU username/password when prompted.  If you are already signed in to a Single Sign-On application in the same browser you may not be prompted to log in

  3. Once logged in, you should be on the "My Phones" page.  This page shows all of the devices currently associated with your VoIP account.  If you've previously already configured Single Number Reach and you wish to edit it, your phone should appear in this section and you can click on it to edit the settings.

  4. The next steps will be different depending on whether the remote phone you want to use Single Number Reach with is a mobile device that you also use Cisco Jabber and/or Webex Teams with.

If you do not use Jabber or Webex Teams on your remote phone

If the remote phone you want to use Single Number Reach with is not a mobile phone (Android or Apple) that you use Cisco Jabber and/or Webex Teams with, do the following:

  1. Click the "+" under "Additional Phones" (#5 in Figure 1 above)

  2. On the "Add a New Additional Phone" dialog, enter your telephone number with area code in the first box.

  3. In the Description field, please include your name and what type of device you have (Ex: John Smith iPhone).  This helps to identify it in the system.

  4. Click the check box next to "Enable Single Number Reach".

  5. Once enabled, the window will expand and you'll now see a graphic that shows the extension and remote phone number this will affect.  Underneath that, you'll also have a new link that says "Create a schedule for this assignment".  By default, Single Number Reach will be in effect 24/7 so, if you want to limit it to your work schedule, click the calendar icon.  If you don't want to configure a schedule, skip to step 7 (you can configure your schedule or edit an existing one at any time by coming back to this website and clicking on your cell phone entry under "Additional Phones".

  6. When the "Add a New Schedule" window appears, enter a name, select "Ring only during specific times" and then check which days you want the schedule to run.  On any days you do not have checked, Single Number Reach will be turned off during those days.  On the line for each checked day, select a start and end time for the schedule.  Calls coming in before or or after the time range will not ring on your cell phone.  Finally, change the time zone to "(GMT-6:00) America/Chicago" or "(GMT-6:00) CST6CDT" by clicking the Time Zone drop down at the bottom and clicking "More choices" until you find them (please note, if clicking "More choices" doesn't change the list you may need to try a different web browser).  Once finished, click Save.

  7. Once you're satisfied with the configuration, click Save on the "Add a New Additional Phone" window.  Your remote phone should now appear as an entry under "Additional Phones".  In the future, you can change your schedule or disable Single Number Reach entirely by clicking on the Gear icon and choosing "Edit".
