Introduction:
When Windows 11 is installed, the default web browser is Microsoft Edge (click here for information on the Edge browser). Windows gives you the ability to choose a different browser as your default. If you want to use a different browser as your default in Windows, you can follow these steps to change it.
Note: The browser you want to use as your default needs to be installed and available in your Windows.
Step-By-Step:
Step 1: Right-click the Windows Start button.
Response: A flyout menu appears at the Start button with several system options displayed.
Step 2: Select Settings from this flyout menu as shown in this figure.
Response: The Windows Settings applet opens.
Step 3: In the Windows Settings applet, click on the Apps icon in the lefthand pane and then select Default Apps
in the righthand pane as shown in this picture.
Response: Clicking on Apps in the lefthand pane, then Default Apps in the righthand pane, will display the Default Apps menu in the righthand pane, listing your installed apps.
Step 4: In the list of installed apps, scroll down to Google Chrome and click it as shown below.
Response: The options for which Google Chrome can be set as the default are listed. At the very top of this list is the option to "Make Google Chrome your default browser."
Step 5: At the top of the Settings applet, in the righthand pane, click the Set default button as shown in this image.
Response: Google is set as your default browser. You can also scroll through and make custom changes based on file extensions. You can now close the Settings applet and Chrome is now your default browser.
Summary:
